Volunteering with The Victoria Cross Trust

The Victoria Cross Trust relies on a small but committed team of veteran volunteers who work with us to achieve the charity’s aims. We offer a variety of volunteering opportunities and we encourage new veterans to get involved with the Victoria Cross Trust and enjoy the benefits of being part of our friendly community.
A core objective for the VCT is to clean the graves of Victoria Cross recipients which is the highest military award for valour. Our grave cleaning team regularly travel around the country to clean Victoria Cross graves and when relevant the graves of their family members. We also work with groups of veterans to clean the graves of other fallen soldiers and will provide training in the specialist skills required to undertake this work. Our team of volunteers clean these graves, enjoying companionship and friendship whilst undertaking this incredibly worthwhile activity. We provide overnight accommodation when required and our volunteers learn the stories of these brave soldiers whilst sharing their own experiences.

Another very busy area of activity is attendance at galas and events. During the summer months the Victoria CrossTrust regularly attends galas and summer events and often we are able to display our range of military vehicles, weapons and other military artefacts.
These events are usually very busy fun filled family days out and our volunteers will sell a range of Victoria CrossTrust retail items and chat to the public about our artefacts and the history of the Victoria Cross.
This activity is a fantastic opportunity for volunteers to become involved, working in a team to engage with the public or work behind the scenes to raise funds for the Victoria CrossTrust.
At our events some of our volunteers also get involved in 1940’s re-enactment and we can boast to having Churchill and a Land Girl in our team!!
The Victoria CrossTrust also seeks to educate the public, including school children in the history of the Victoria Cross and in other military conflicts. There are opportunities for volunteers to work with our educational team to engage with schools and special interest groups to undertake presentations and lectures to ensure the history of the Victoria Cross and other conflicts are remembered.
The Victoria CrossTrust offers a unique opportunity for its veteran volunteers to become part of a close knit team, working to ensure the Victoria Cross stories of bravery are remembered. We welcome new veteran volunteers and if you are interested why not send us an email via the link on this website or indeed attend one of our events and meet us in person. We would love to hear from you!!!!
