Cheadle Hulme School remembers former pupil

Belinda Christie, the grand daughter of John Jock Christie VC had told us the story of her grand father working to ensure his son received a good education. Jock also worked to support Cheadle Hulme School where his son received his education.

We thought it fitting to provide a plaque to the school to celebrate the actions of one of their own Jock Christie VC. Belinda, shown in the photograph and over on a family visit, joined us at the school to unveil the plaque and witness our presentations to students on the VC. As part of the ceremony two students readout impact statements on the life of Jock Christie and why it is important to remember.

Lance Corporal JOHN CHRISTIE FEJJA, Palestine 21/22 December 1917 He was 22 years old and serving in the 1/11th (County of London) Bn, London Regiment (Finsbury Rifles) when the enemy captured our position and were making forays along the communication trenches. Seeing what was happening, Christie took a supply of bombs, went out alone and started bombing the enemy in spite of heavy opposition, until a block was established. His prompt action cleared a difficult position at a most critical time. He died on 10 September 1967.
