July 2026 saw the VC Trust restoration team visit the Isle of Wight supported by local businesses and communities for the third year.
The target was to clean and restore 50 memorials, an objective that was missed by just one in 2025. This year the target was smashed for 91 memorials cleaned or restored across the island. Whippingham, Northwood Ryde, Shanklin and East Cowes were visited a work ranging from cleaning to re-lettering and resetting headstones completed.
Whippingham has Queen Victoria's church, ST Mildred's and formed the theme for this years project with around 30 completed in the first two days. Below are just some of the memorials that were restored including several VCs that were cleaned on the journey home to Doncaster.
