The Victoria Cross Trust team will be visiting Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the spring to conduct a number of restorations and cleans on the graves and memorials in the grounds.
This joint venture with the Sandhurst Trust will see around twenty memorials restored including that of  William James Lendrim VC who earned his Victoria Cross in the Crimean War. The project aims to restore around twenty memorials relating to all ranks and family members associated with RMA Sandhurst as part of the VCTs charitable aims. SEBASTOPOL 14 February, 11 and 20 April 1855 He was 25 years old and serving in the Corps of Royal Engineers. When he was in charge of a group of French Chasseurs during the building of a battery, a tremendous fire made a series of small breaches in the parapet. He zealously went from gap to gap and ensured that all the capsized gabions were replaced. On 11 April he extinguished a fire that had broken out among some sandbags on the parapet of a battery, all the time under fire from the enemy. On 20 April he was one of four volunteers to destroy screens that the Russians had put up to conceal their advanced rifle pits. He died on 28 November 1891.
His citation reads:
Intrepidity–getting on the top of a Magazine, and extinguishing sand-bags which were burning, and making good the breach under fire, on the 11th April, 1855. For courage and praiseworthy example in superintending 150 French Chasseurs, on the 14th February, 1855, in building No. 9 Battery, Left Attack, and replacing the whole of the capsized gabions under a heavy fire. Was one of four volunteers for destroying the farthest Rifle Pit on the 20th April.
